HERE'S A TEDx TALK I DID.
I went to a bunch of author's websites and saw that they were written in third person. My immediate thought was, 'who is talking right now? who is bragging about the person on their own website?' I get it. No one wants to self-promote in the first person. Maybe their publishers make the websites. I don't know. But I can't pretend like someone else is writing this. This is me talking. Hi. I'm right here. I made this website so people could find more of my work and what I'm about.
I am a writer and I'm working on a book that I believe needs to be written. It's an autobiographical novel about a 10,000 mile bicycle trip I did from Oregon to Patagonia. There are a lot of things I wish I could have read when I was in my early twenties. So I'm writing this book to my younger self. Maybe I'm writing it to you as well.
I'm also Executive Editor for Wilderness Magazine.
I do a lot of writing on instagram. I like its limits and also its flow. It's a place where I process my thoughts as I work on my book. If you want a lil' dose every day, follow me there.
If you want to see what I've written before, or watch a video, or listen to me talk your ear off on a few podcasts, this is the place for you (see above).
I share this with you because whenever I find a writer that I identify with, one that makes me say 'oh my god me too, they get it,' I tend to want more. I think: this is a kindred mind that has lived in another body in another place, and therefore, almost as if my brain had another life, and I get to glean the lessons of more than one lifetime. That is the magic of writing, and connecting with a writer. If that is you, welcome to your other you. :)
